Children’s Worship Center

Young children and worship describes an exciting way children experience God while learning about God.  Young children and worship use a sensorimotor style of story telling as a primary means for encountering God.  So God is experienced not just learned about.  It gives appropriate freedom so young children can respond to stories of God through continually working with the story figures and art materials.  The young children and worship experience is primarily visual, oral and kinesthetic.  The children experience wonder, mystery and the presence of God.  In the Worship Center we focus on the foundational and essential components of worship.  Also on the biblical stories that give content to the images, symbols and actions of worship.  We follow the church year.  It tells time by celebrating the events of Jesus’ birth, life, death, resurrection, ascension and the gift of the Holy Spirit.  We encourage families with young children to come and visit.  We are Excited to share the stories!

Our children’s worship center is for ages 4-8 yrs of age.  And is held during the school year.

This is the season of Epiphany. ( fifth Sunday) Epiphany is God revealed to us….. how can we see God more clearly more dearly in our everyday lives and ordinary things?
We need “Epiphany Eyes” where we look at ordinary things and see how God sees the world.
Gods story today is the Parable of the Mustard Seed. Parables are like presents. They have already been given to us. We can’t buy them, or take them, or steal them. They are already ours. Parables sometimes seem to have lids on them. But when we lift the lid of a parable there is something special inside.
Once there was someone who said such amazing things, and did such wonderful things, that people began to follow him. As they followed, he told them about a kingdom: the Kingdom of Heaven. But they did not understand. They had never been to such a place. And they didn’t know anyone who had. They didn’t even know where it was. So one day, they simple had to ask him, “What is the Kingdom of Heaven like?”
And he said, “The Kingdom of Heaven is like a grain of mustard seed………
I wonder if these birds have names?…….. I wonder how the birds feel about the tree?…….. I wonder where the birds were coming from?……
Children’s Message January 29th, 2023
This is the season of Epiphany. (Fourth Sunday)
Today our story takes place in the desert. So many important things happen in the desert that we just have to have a small piece of it in our room.
John the Baptist lived in the desert. People of God came out to the desert to listen to John. John said, “Get ready! God is sending someone special. The special Son of God is coming!” But they did not know how to get ready.
So John said, “ Change the way you live. Do the Ten Best Ways to Live. And I will baptize you with water. You will be clean and new again.
One day Jesus came to John and said, “Baptize me too.” Do they went through the water…… and John baptized Jesus. Then the heavens opened and the Spirit of God came to Jesus…. and the voice of God said, “This is my Son.”
I wonder  if it was hard for the people to change they way they lived?………
I wonder how they felt when they went through the waters and went under the water to be baptized?…….
I wonder how they felt when they came out of the water?……..
I wonder if the people felt ready to come close to the special Son of God?…………
I wonder how you get ready to be close to the special Son of God?…….
Children’s Message January 22nd, 2023
This is the season of Epiphany. Epiphany is a strange yet wonderful word. It means to see more clearly more truly like God sees the world. It means to see the ordinary things in life a little differently, with Epiphany eyes.
Our story for the third Sunday of Epiphany is The Boy Jesus in the Temple.  Once every year the people of God go up to Jerusalem to celebrate the feast of the Passover, to remember how God led them through the waters to freedom. Jesus was old enough to go to the temple. Jesus went to the temple to talk to God. Jesus stayed listening and conversing with the teachers in the temple.
Mary and Joseph started home but could not find Jesus. When they finally found him in the temple, Jesus was confused as to why they were looking everywhere for him.
The boy Jesus grew to be a man. He grew taller and stronger. He grew in wisdom and love, and he was loved by God and loved by people.
I wonder how Jesus felt when he was finally old enough to go to the temple all by himself?……………
I wonder how Mary and Joseph felt when they couldn’t find Jesus?…….
I wonder why Jesus was surprised when his parents didn’t know where he was?……………

This is the season of Epiphany. ( second Sunday of Epiphany)
Epiphany is a strange yet beautiful word. It means to see more clearly….more truly….more like God sees the world…..but even more than that…. it means to see God or at least what God has done….where you hadn’t noticed it before,
Today we will remember together the story of Simeon’s Epiphany moment…when he saw the baby Jesus and knew he was the Messiah promised by the prophets
Anna also saw baby Jesus. She was a prophet, very old and very wise. Anna also knew that this baby was the promised Messiah.
I wonder if we would have had Epiphany eyes….Do you think Jesus would have looked so very different from the other babies?……….
I wonder what helped Anna and Simeon have Epiphany eyes?………..

Children’s Message January 8th, 2023

We are in the season of Epiphany. The word Epiphany means revelation or showing forth. God has appeared. God is revealed to the Magi as the child Jesus, and later as an adult when he is baptized, anointed with the Holy Spirit and called God’s beloved Son.
We talk about the Magi visit. They followed a special star. It led them to the place where Jesus was. The Magi opened their treasures and presented Him with gifts of gold, frankincense and Myrrh.
I wonder what Jesus did when he saw the gifts?………
I wonder why the Magi stayed?……
I wonder if the Magi had Epiphany eyes?……..

Children’s Message December 25th, 2022

Today is Christmas, the day we celebrate the mystery of God becoming a person. Today we are all
at Bethlehem to meet the Christ child, the special Son of God.
Here, in Bethlehem lies the newborn Christ child, lying in a manger bed….. Christ the Light, a Light for the whole world. The Christ candle reminds us the Christ is the Light. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
I wonder how it feels to be in Bethlehem?……….
I wonder how many people got to Bethlehem and if they saw the Christ child?………
I wonder how they feel about this newborn baby?……….
I wonder how Jesus feels about them?……….
I wonder how God feels?……….

Children’s Message December 18th, 2022

This is the season of Advent, the time we get ready to celebrate the mystery of Christmas, the time we are all on the way to Bethlehem. But who will show us the way?
The Magi are on the way to Bethlehem. They can show us the way. The Magi saw a special star in the sky, a star for a king. They followed the star to Bethlehem, bringing gifts for the newborn king: gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh. The candle of the Magi reminds us of gifts, of God’s gift of Christ the newborn king.
I wonder how the Magi knew the star was special and others just saw a star?…………..
I wonder if it was hard for them to find the special king?……………
I wonder what it is like to be a baby and a king?………………….

Children’s Message December 11th, 2022

This is the season of Advent, the time we get ready to celebrate the mystery of Christmas, the time we are all on the road to Bethlehem. But who will show us the way?
The shepherds are on the way to Bethlehem. They have good news too. They can show us the way. An angel came to them and said,” Do not be afraid. Be joyful. Today a Savior, God’s special son , is born in Bethlehem. You will find him lying in a manger.
I wonder how the shepherds felt when an angel spoke to them? …… I wonder how they felt on the way to Bethlehem?………. I wonder if they will find the Savior?…….. I wonder what will happen when they find Jesus?……….

Children’s Message December 4th, 2022

This is the season of Advent, the time we get ready to celebrate the mystery of Christmas, the time we are all on the way to Bethlehem. But who will show us the way?
The prophets listen to God. So they can show us the way. The candle of the prophets reminds us that prophets like Isaiah listen and spoke the word of God.
Mary and Joseph are on the way to Bethlehem. They can show us the way. They have a secret. An angel came to them and said,” Do not be afraid. Be joyful. You will have God’s special son. You will name him Jesus.”
The candle of the Holy Family reminds us not to be afraid, but be joyful on the way to Bethlehem. Be filled with peace.
I wonder how Mary and Jospeh felt on the way to Bethlehem?……..
What if the animals could say a prayer when Jesus was born?….
Peace is having no fear!

Children’s Message November 27th, 2022

This is the season of Advent, the time we get ready to celebrate the mystery of Christmas, the time we are all on the road to Bethlehem. But who will show us the way?
The prophets. The prophets listen to God. So they can show us the way.
Isaiah was a prophet who listened and spoke the word of God. He said one day a Messiah would be born.
I wonder how the prophets listened to God?………I wonder how they knew it was God who spoke?………I wonder if there are still prophets today who can show us the way to Bethlehem?………
I wonder what the way to Bethlehem is like?………..

Children’s Message November 13th, 2022

After God led the people of God through the water to freedom, they were free to go any way they wanted. But what was the best way to go? Well, God loved the people so much that God said to Moses: “I will show you the way. I will lead you to the holy mountain, Mount Sinai.”
God gave Moses the Ten Best Ways to Live. When Moses came down from the holy mountain, he gave the Ten Best Ways to Live to the people. There were four bests ways for loving God. And there were six best ways for loving people.
I wonder if it is hard to be free?……
I wonder what God and Moses talked about?……… I wonder if it is hard to love God and love people.

Children’s Message November 6th, 2022

Our story today takes place in the desert box. So many important things happen in the desert that we just have to have a small piece of it in our room.
The desert is a strange and wild place. At night it is very cold, but in the day it is burning hot. There is almost no water at all……The desert is always changing. The wind comes. And as it blows it shapes and molds. So the desert is never the same.
The people of God were living in Egypt….. the new king Pharaoh made them slaves. The people cried out their prayers to God. God answered and chose Moses to talk to Pharaoh.
I wonder how it feels if the only way to get food is to be a slave?………..
I wonder if you have ever been near a place like this, trapped, and someone freed you?…….
I wonder how it felt when God led them through the water to freedom?…….
Now that the people of God are free, I wonder which way they will go?…..
I wonder how they will know the way?……..

Children’s Message October 30th, 2022

Sometimes God uses unusual circumstances and or events that lead to something far greater then we could ever imagine. Moses birth and protection is explored in this weeks story from God.
The new Pharaoh of Egypt was afraid that the people of God had become so many….. he made them slaves…….he told his soldiers to kill the baby boys of the people of God…. I wonder why Pharaoh did that?
I wonder why Moses mother made a basket for her baby?…..
I wonder how she felt placing her baby inside the basket ?…….
I wonder how Moses sister felt as she watched what would happen?…..

Children’s Message October 23rd, 2022

In the beginning God gave us our biggest gifts, the gifts of light and water, earth and people. And God said, “ They are very good.” But the people grew wicked and did bad things.
God was very sad. Everything that was good and clean and new at creation seemed spoiled. But there was one good family. There was the mother and father Noah. God said to Noah, “I will send a great flood of water to wash everything clean and to make it new again. Build an ark…..”
I wonder how it felt to be in the ark in all that rain?………
I wonder what it was like to be surrounded by so much water?…
A rainbow is God’s word of love to the world. The rainbow is a Christmas picture, an Easter picture, a Valentine in the sky. God’s love can be felt in the wind or a twinkling star.
I wonder how many colors make a rainbow?……. I wonder who has never seen a rainbow?…… I wonder why rainbows need a cloud?……
What if we had a church service under a rainbow?……
What if rainbows could stay for a whole day?……..
What if you could hear a rainbow whisper?…….
A rainbow is a bridge under which to feel safe!

Children’s Message October 16th, 2022

What are some of the biggest gifts you have? There are some gifts that are so big that it’s very hard to see them. They are everywhere, but they are so big we forget they are here. We don’t know how to see them unless we go back to the beginning….. or just before the beginning.
God created some big gifts. We speak of it in terms of gifts-God’s gift of creation-and the special day of creation when we can remember all the gifts of creation.
I wonder what special place you would go to remember the gifts of creation?………

Children’s Message October 9th, 2022

Once there was someone who said such wonderful things and did such amazing things that people began to follow him. But they didn’t know who he was. So one day they simply had to ask him, and he said…… “I am the Good Shepherd. I know each one of my sheep by name. And they know the sound of my voice. So when I call my sheep they follow me.
We tell the Good Shepherd story in three parts: first we focus on the Good Shepherds leading. Second: we focus on the lost sheep from the fold. But the third part, about the Good Shepherd and the wolf is not told until after Easter. The children construct their image of a Jesus through the Good Shepherd. They relate to the security and safety provided by the Good Shepherd and the sheepfold. The story provides a link to the Lords Supper.
I wonder if the sheep have names?….. I wonder how many sheep really could live in this place?….I wonder if you have ever heard the Good Shepherd say your name?……..

So when I call my sheep from the sheepfold, they follow me. I walk in front of the sheep to show them they way.
I wonder if the sheep have names?……. I wonder if the sheep are happy in this place?……
I wonder if the Good Shepherd has ever called your name?……..

Children’s Message September 25th, 2022

Sometimes it is very hard to tell how hat time it is. There are all kinds of time. I wonder how the church tells time? …… some day time is a line. It has a beginning…. a middle… and an end. It’s hard to tell beginnings and endings when time is in a line. So let’s take the ending and beginning and tie them together. Now we have time in a circle. The church year puzzle shows us how the church tells time.
I wonder why the church uses colors to tell time?……….
I wonder what special days are in the church year?…….

Children’s Message September 18th, 2022

Once there was someone who said such amazing things and did such wonderful things that people began to follow him. But they didn’t know who he was. So one day they simply had to ask him. And he said, “I am the light.
This story from God centers around how people can become one with the light. Many have come to the light. But the light is not smaller. It is still the same.
I wonder how your light could light other lights?…….
I wonder how you could help others have the light of Christ?…….

Children’s Message September 11th, 2022

We will continue to talk with the children about this special place called the Worship Center. This is a place where we have all the time we need. We enter into this room to hear the stories of God, listen to God, talk to God and experience God. We have been walking more slowly and talking more softly in this special place. We have talked about ways to talk to God. Today we will focus on talking to God in prayer. There are some prayer cards we use to help children with their words to God. Amen, Thanks be to God, Alleluia, and Hosanna. We start with these simple words, then children can use their own special word if desired to talk to God.
I wonder what word or words you may use to talk to God today?……..
I wonder if God has some word or words for you today?………
I wonder how you listen to God?……..I
I wonder if it is hard to listen to God?……..

Children’s Message September 4th, 2022

The worship center is a very special place to be with God. In this place we have all the time we need. We can walk more slowly and talk more softly. So we do not disturb someone who may be talking to God. In the worship center we can hear the stories of God, listen to God, talk the God and experience God.
We will help the children get ready to meet God in the worship center room.
I wonder how you get your heart ready to be with God?……..
I wonder what other ways you can get ready to be with God?…….

Our Children’s Worship is starting back up August 28th, 2022

Worship Center begins today for children ages 4-8.
The worship center is a very special place. It is a special place to be with God. In this place we have all the time we need. So we don’t need to hurry. We can walk more slowly. And talk more softly, because someone might be talking to God, and we don’t want to disturb them. This is a special place to be with God, to talk with God, to listen to God, and to hear the stories of God. So we need a way to get ready to be in such a special place to be with God. We will spend some time learning how to get quiet inside and experience God.

Children’s Message May 29th

Once there was someone who said such amazing things and did such wonderful things that people began to follow him. But they did not know who he was. So one day they simply asked him. And he said, “ I am the light.”
Now the day that you received your light May have been a day when you were very tiny. Or it may be a day when you were grown big. When that happens something is done in the church called baptism. The mother and father and other people bring the baby to the church. Then the pastor calls the baby by name and puts special water on the baby. ……and says the special words, “ I baptize you in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.” And that is what happens on the day you received your light. It is the day you came into the family of families we call the church.
I wonder what it was like on the day you received your light? ……….or
I wonder what it will be like on the day of your baptism?…………….

Children’s Message May 22nd

This is the season of Easter. The time we celebrate that Jesus died and God made him alive again. Alleluia Amen!
Today we retell the parable of The Good Shepherd.  Through the telling of this parable we show the relationship between The Good Shepherd and communion.
Once there was someone who did such amazing things and said such.. wonderful things  that people  began to follow him. But they did not know who he was. So one day they simply asked him. He said,” I am the Good Shepherd. I know each one of my sheep by name. And they know the sound of my voice. so when I call the sheep from the sheepfold they follow me.
I wonder if these sheep have name?…… I wonder if the sheep are happy here?………I wonder where this place might really be?…….. I wonder how many people can come to this table?……. I wonder where they came from?………..

Children’s Message May 8th

This is the season of Easter! It is the time we celebrate the mystery that Jesus died and God made him alive again. We sing, dance and shout our Alleluia’s to God for giving us new life.
The children will again hear the parable of the Good Shepherd. When we get to the point where the shepherd moves through the dark rocky places, we will talk about an ordinary shepherd versus the Good Shepherd. We will also introduce the wolf. The wolf comes to destroy the sheep fold. But the Good Shrpherd stands between the wolf and the sheep and even gives his life for the sheep…. So the sheep can return safely home.
I wonder if the wolf has ever been close to you?…….. I wonder if you have ever heard the Good Shepherd say your name?………
I wonder where this whole place might really be?……

Children’s Message May 3rd

This is the season of Easter, the time we celebrate the mystery that Jesus died and God made him alive again.
After God raised Jesus from the dead, Jesus’ disciples continued to meet on Sunday, the first day of the week.
This Sunday the disciples were happy because last week
they had seen Jesus, alive, in this very room. Jesus had said to them, “ Peace be with you.” But Thomas had not been with them. Thomas said, “ Unless I see and touch the mail marks in his hands and touch his side, I will
Not believe Jesus is alive.”
They closed the doors. But suddenly someone appeared. He said, “Thomas, look at my hands. Come and touch them……. And put your hand in my side. Stop doubting and believe.”
I wonder why Thomas doesn’t believe the disciples when they say, “Jesus is alive?”……….
I wonder how Thomas feels seeing Jesus alive?………
I wonder what the disciples will do now?………
